Classic Dirt Bike Show kicks off event season
It’s back after a year’s exile thanks to a global pandemic, but now the Classic Dirt Bike Show, sponsored by Hagon Shocks, will be returning to the Telford International Centre, Shropshire on February 12-13, 2022. It promises to kick the show season off with style, verve and the loads of entertainment we’ve come to expect from this event.
As we mentioned in OBM438, Derrick Edmondson, nine-times class winner of the British Enduro Championship, will be in attendance, along with one of the all-time great enduro riders – not to mention a huge character – Arthur Browning.
The show’s much-anticipated guests of honour Derrick and Arthur will be on hand to relate anecdotes and stories about their illustrious careers.
As well as the plethora of classic and vintage dirt bikes you might expect, the show will also be welcoming a quartet of extremely unusual machines, courtesy of Peter Hannis of the Crazy Toyz workshop in Gloucestershire.
First is a steampunk special with a 1940s cement mixer engine, along with a Bultaco with a 700cc two-stroke sidecar engine.
Ex-firefighter Peter’s latest project is a 750cc off-road trike using a Suzuki Katana motor in a modified Bandit frame and the former British sidecar enduro champion competed in last year’s Malle Mile with this machine and passenger Paul Biggs.
It was undefeated throughout the day, winning the sprint final. Finally, Peter will be taking along his Honda CBR600 dirt bike (yes, you read that right) which has been converted to twin shocks and uses a Suzuki RMZ450 scrambler front end and a KTM rear wheel. It was built for the Blue Grass Scramble in Little Comberton,
Worcestershire, and also achieved a win at Devon’s Helter Skelter Hill Climb, flying up a ridiculously steep hillside.
Another new stand will showcase Royal Enfield, with nine Bullets and Crusaders, including the late Jim Pickering’s Bullet while John Richardson will be exhibiting two Enfield Bullets, one completely stock and the other, by contrast, highly modified.
Tickets are £14 in advance for adults – be quick because pre-booking ends at 8.30am on February 7, 2022 – or £16 on the gate, while accompanied 15-year-olds and younger go free.
