Old Bike Mart

New in Northumberland

- Tim Britton

Anyone who has ridden one of the North East Vinduro Club events will be familiar with Gav and Gill Douglas and the efforts they put in to make the classic and vintage enduro scene popular in Northumberland. Now they have opened a new business called Glendale Classic Dirt Bikes, based in Glendale Business Park at Haugh Head near Wooler, which is right in the area where the vinduro events are.

To launch the new business they had an open day in the autumn and welcomed vintage enduro fans and competitors to check out the workshops. Gav and Gill were rushing about all day, but I managed to catch them for a few moments and see what’s what about the business.

Says Gav: “I’ve wanted to do this for a while and the time just seemed right now. We’re focused on the vinduro era which covers 1970s, 80s and 90s enduro bikes but can happily handle similar era MX and probably trials, too.”

Bearing this out in their small showroom area were a couple of CR500 Hondas, a smart IT465 and a cute Montesa

Cota 25C – like the one Gav started his riding on in… well, a while ago. The shop area stocks consumables such as Motul oils, inner tubes and popular tyre sizes, though Gav says a full range of parts are obtainable. Talking about his plans for the next few months he says: “We’re set up to do dirt bike restoration, rebuilds of two-stroke engine units and full rebuilds on suspension too. With the suspension though we’re doing an add-on, once rebuilt we can go and fine tune it to a rider on actual terrain as we have a course near us we can use.”
