Old Bike Mart

Postman Hadlow rides again!

-

Well done, Blue. Once again you and your team have given us a super read. I’ve read OBM439 from cover to cover, you have covered so many diverse motorcycle activities and it’s the best issue yet.

Your article on old motorcycles and sidecars has created yet more interest for me in OBM.I have had motorcycles from the age of 16 and over the last 30 years my interest has moved towards veterans. But, are you testing the thorough reading of your readers or was this just a mistake? On page 24 there is a picture of Crane-Bennett Ltd’s Chater-Lea outfit and the caption states how wise to join the RAC. But the picture clearly shows a commercial AA badge which is fixed to a vehicle with commercial connections which the owner is entitled to do.

Then the picture on page 22 of ‘Postman Hadlow’ caused me to almost jump out of my chair as I recognised him! I have a large collection of vintage and veteran photographs and, sure enough, I have a photo of him but on a motorcycle with a very large basket trailer. The whole outfit looks brand new and he is in a super pose, he clearly got about a bit!

In the photo in OBM I can see some form of cleats on the back driving wheel to give more grip. I have never seen this type of fitment before so I would like to know more about it if anyone knows.

I’ve just had another look at issue 1 of Old Bike Mart – all four pages of it – and I wondered if the Norton Commando MK 11A Interstate for £900 has sold. How times have changed. Richard Mummery Faversham, Kent
