Shedding some light for Mr Boyd
I was interested in Michael Boyd’s photographs of the Lily Laundry outfit and Mr William Myers of Myers and Bowman, as seen in Letters in OBM441.
I cannot recognise the two-stroke motorcycle, but it does bear an old Cumberland County Council registration plate of the ‘AO’ series. Mr Boyd might like to contact Cumbria County Council archives which have the original handwritten entries for the Cumberland series of registrations. He may even discover the original owner to whom the machine was registered and the make, etc., of the motorcycle. The archive may be contacted at Cumbria CC Archives, Lady Gilford’s House, Petteril Bank Road, Carlisle, Cumbria CA1 3AJ (telephone 01228 227285).
Incidentally, Myers and Bowman of Distington, Workington, are now car dealers. I don’t know the current franchise they sell but they used to be Rootes agents.
