From injuneer to engineer!
I have followed your debate regarding engineers with interest.
In 1965 I started a five-year apprenticeship with an engineering company to train as a design draughtsman. Along the way I secured an HNC in Mechanical Engineering Design which, I believe, gave me automatic membership of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (AMIMechE).
When I completed my time, my colleagues gave me a beautiful certificate with a drawing of my face on it, and underneath it said; ‘5 years ago I couldn’t even spell injuneer and now I are one’.
Am I still an engineer? If you heard me shouting in frustration at the various challenges my collection of 1950s AMC bikes create for me, you would say NO!
