Classic Motorcycle Day at Crich Tramway Village

-

July 3 will see the Classic Motorcycle Day return to Crich Tramway Village in Derbyshire. Last year the event had to be delayed until autumn because of – well, you know the answer to that! – and despite coinciding with wet weather the day before and a nationwide fuel shortage, it still attracted hundreds of people and motorcycles, including OBM’s own Blue.

After thoroughly enjoying last year’s event, Blue will be returning again this year to once more judge Best Original Motorcycle, one of the various classes with the Best in Show award being decided by the general public. The Classic Motorcycle Day is held in partnership with the Vincent HRD Owners Club and is sponsored by Derwent Waste Management.

All bikes allowed to park in the village itself must be more than 25 years old and, as this year sees the 50th anniversary of the Kawasaki Z900, the organisers are particularly hoping for an impressive line-up of Z1s.

Entry to the event is free for all riders of classic machines and scooters. There is catering on site, a pub and plenty of areas to relax in or even take a stroll along the nature walk and sculpture trail. Unfortunately, as we went to print, due to work on the power lines, the museum is currently unable to operate its wonderful trams, although it is hoping that trams may be running again by the time of the Classic Motorcycle Day. However, the day will go ahead even without the trams – and there will even be a flypast by a Lancaster bomber in the afternoon.

Vincent HRD Owners Club organiser Jon Lambley said:

“Many of the classic motorcycle owners consider this event to be one of the most important in the year, and we hope that everyone will enjoy this year’s display and vote for their favourite machine.”
