Remembering John Ebbrell

- SJ Bridgwater, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

A friend recently gave me the May edition of your magazine which contained the article and photograph of John Ebbrell astride the Triton. It brought back the sadness of his untimely death.

In 1956, living in North Wales, I rode in the third Rossendale Enduro on my G9 Matchless as a Rossendale Club member and won their Best Club Member award. In 1957, again on the Matchless, I rode in the fourth Enduro, coming second to Peter Wraith. It was a Six

Days Event. My third Enduro, on a comp James, ended on the moors above Wray, Lancashire at 3pm and I was finally rescued at 9pm! But, as a result of my Enduros, John and I became good friends and now were both married; my wife and I lived near Newport in Shropshire. On John’s various trips to the Elephant Rally in North Wales he would stay overnight to thaw out! Sometime later I worked in London and lived with Eileen and John at Newbury Park. Needless to say, my wife Joyce and I were deeply saddened to learn of his tragic death.

Your article and photograph brought back the memories and privilege of knowing John.

?? ?? Mr Bridgwater, we hope you will enjoy this smashing picture of John and Eileen enjoying an al fresco meal in around 1963.
