Yet again you have done us proud!
The May edition was a wonderful read, but I was saddened to read your editorial [about telephone scammers. Ed] but sadly the low life are still really active. Down here in Kent we are having churches broken into and some priceless artefacts stolen. The worst scenario is that they will be melted down for their scrap value, but some of the items are priceless in the memories that they evoke.
My ex-Metropolitan Triumph 6T ‘Thunderbird’ fleet number 2034 ‘T’, which I rode for numerous miles on various duties, is now on display with my ex-Metropolitan Triumph ‘Saint’ in a local transport museum. I purchased a mannequin which I placed alongside the 6T with one of my old uniforms and corker helmet.
Guess what? Some low life has taken the Stadium goggles that I put on it. I was truly upset when I found those missing, I can tell you.
I like Blue’s comments about Bill Shergold – I remember him well from my times in both the police and the ministry while in the East End, a truly wonderful man. I would love to have been able to get to the Abbey service, but I would be in Brighton judging the buses and coaches in the Historic Commercial Vehicle Society London to Brighton Run!
I have not yet persuaded them that police Triumph motorcycles are commercial!
Thanks yet again for a wonderful read.
