Stylish manufacturing makes Merlin Explorer range magical

We’ve already mentioned Merlin before in these pages, back in OBM441 when the Staffordshire company produced a special edition jacket for the launch of the new BSA Gold Star. But we’ve kept an eye on Merlin and been impressed by the quality and style of the clothing which it designs and manufactures. New to Merlin is the Explorer range; this is, as the name might suggest, really designed for adventure touring with a combination of rugged durability, reliable protection and sharp styling. But even if your bike never sees anything other than tarmac beneath its tyres and your idea of adventure is taking a different way home from the pub, we think you will appreciate Merlin’s Explorer clothing.

The mainstay of the collection is the Monty D30 waxed cotton jacket which has a 12oz Halley Stevensons waxed cotton outer, backed by a removable Reissa Active waterproof membrane attached to a 125g thermal lining, which means it’s adaptable to just about any weather conditions.

There’s a pre-fitted seven-piece armour set to protect the shoulder, elbows, back and chest and smart details like leather trim to each pocket. Available in black or olive, in sizes S up to 4XL for £379.99.

We were also rather taken with the collection’s Bandit motorcycle boots which provide comfort and protection when you’re riding and style when you’re not. The premium cowhide leather upper has subtle contrasting panels to set them apart, and, for superior waterproofing, they’re backed by a Hipora Triple Liner which is exclusive to Merlin. D30 inline protectors and a reinforced foot bed mean that these boots are as functional as they are good-looking.
