A trend-setting couple
Here is my first bike, a BSA A7 500cc, registration number PAA 515. The photo was taken in August 1959 and I had purchased the bike the previous November from Jenkins & Purser in Southampton, the BSA dealers of the time. On the back is my then girlfriend who later became my wife.
You will see that we have some smart gear on; the leather jackets and Wrangler jeans were bought in New York (I was working on the Cunard liner RMS Queen Mary at the time). You will also notice I have crash bars on but no helmets – we must have thought more of our legs than our heads. I’ve had a few bikes in my time and now, 63 years later, I still ride a 1962 Triumph Tiger Cub.
