Givi smartphone holders

-

It seems almost impossible to operate in today’s modern world without a smartphone. It’s technology to which we have come late in the OBM Shed (our illustrious editor still uses a Blackberry – you may have to ask your dads what one of those was), but we can’t deny how useful they can be. How did we ever get by without a weather app (remember those dark and distant days when we actually had to look out of a window to see what the weather was doing) or an app to order a takeaway or a grocery delivery. Shudder at the memory of those awful times when we had to use a telephone to order a take-out meal or, even worse, go to the supermarket ourselves…

However, one useful thing about smartphones is that you can use them for satellite navigation, whether you’re using an app from a famous GPS unit manufacturer such as TomTom or Garmin, or opting for the free Google maps or Waze app. Even smart GPS units can be cumbersome on a motorcycle, particularly a classic which was never designed for such modern devilment, so being able to use your phone for that purpose is to be welcomed.

For more than 40 years Givi has been making travel by motorcycle easier, whether with its choice of soft luggage, tank bags or hard cases. Now it has added two neat holders to its range to accommodate your phone or GPS. The S95 B is aimed at those people who still like and trust their dedicated satellite navigation machines and its mounting system is designed for tubular structures with a diameter between 8mm and 35mm and is adaptable to non-circular shapes. Thus, it can be attached to motorbikes with handlebars of 22mm or more and can also be placed on the cylindrical support of the rear-view mirrors. The Givi patented anchoring system between the holder and the cover allows the device holder to be detached quickly and easily by simply pressing a lever.

Thanks to its ‘shock absorbing cushion,’ safety straps, waterproof cover and waterproof zip, this holder will keep your sat nav safe. It also has a sun visor and an opening at the bottom to connect the charger. Prices start at £50.

Meanwhile, the S920 is a universal clamp which allows you to attach any smartphone (two sizes are available depending on the size of your device). Like the rest of the range, it is compatible with tubular structures with a diameter between 8mm and 35mm and can be anchored to nonrounded sections. Its device anchoring system allows easy positioning and adjustment of position. What’s more, it includes GRIP+ safety elastic that further fixes the mobile to the support, preventing it from moving or coming loose in the event of riding over any bumps on the road. This bracket is available at a price of £73 in its smaller size or £78 in its larger size. Forget about taping handwritten sheets of directions to your tank, this will bring you into the 21st century! For details, visit www. givi.co.uk or call 01327 706220.
