New MV Agusta inspired by Agostini
We don’t, as well you know, often feature modern motorcycles, but when it’s a limited edition series created as a tribute to 15-time World Champion Giacomo Agostini, we can make an exception. After all, Ago may be Italian but we like to consider him something of a national treasure too!
The 2022 MV Agusta 798cc Superveloce Ago Limited Edition machine is an exclusive version of the hand-built retro Superveloce sports bike, honouring the racing successes of Agostini. A total of 311 motorcycles are being built, reflecting the number of races won by the Italian over his 17year racing career, which, of course, includes 122 Grand Prix victories.
The Superveloce Ago lives up to its name, delivering a top speed of 149mph (240kmh) and 0-60mph acceleration in just three seconds, produced from its 800cc three-cylinder engine and aided by its electronically assisted transmission, allowing for lightning-fast and precise gear shifts.
Although the Superveloce Ago was first unveiled at the end of last year, the very first one, representing Agostini’s first win in 1965 at the 350cc German Grand Prix, was recently auctioned by Bonhams in aid of the UNICEF Ukraine emergency fund. Included in the lot was a visit to Bergamo for dinner with Agostini, a tour of his private museum, and a photo shoot with the Grand Prix legend. The estimate was £70,000-£100,000 but in the end a buyer picked the bike and experience up for £45,837, which seems to be quite a good deal.
