The result of a slide caught on slide (film)!

Many thanks to Mr Douglas Begg for rousing my memories of the occasion when Giacomo Agostini and Mike Hailwood came to grief at Sarah’s Cottage during the 1960s TT. I was also there on the day and can contribute my recollections of the events.

Friday, June 18, 1965 – Senior TT.

Agostini came off his 500cc MV and retired, leaving his machine leaning on the grass bank. I have a Perutz transparency – remember them? – I took of the machine after the race.

Hailwood similarly came off his 500cc MV (not a Honda) on the following lap, restarted his machine (downhill), remounted, and continued to win the race. I also have a transparency of him aboard his damaged machine with most of the windscreen missing and dented exhaust pipes.

Happy days indeed, but not for Ago!
