A glass that's greener

Looking for a delectable vegan wine? SPAR’s award-winning plant-based range is kind to your pocket and the planet

-

What better way to spend a chilly winter evening than curled up on the sofa with a glass of your favourite? If you require a vegan tipple, finding a wine that suits you can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Thankfully, your local SPAR has got you covered.

Home to more than 70 quality wines, the grocer is making plant-based drinking much easier with its 100 per cent vegan own-label wine range. Every bottle from the 2021 vintage onwards is now vegan (if you’re not sure, check the label) – it's just the first step towards a more sustainable future for SPAR.

What makes a wine vegan?

The difference is all to do with a process called fining. Wines naturally clarify and stabilise over time, but processing aids known as fining agents are used to speed up the process. These are usually made from animal products, such as milk proteins and egg whites. So, to make vegan-friendly wines, wine makers use nonanimal origin fining products instead.
