This airline became Air India with the introduction of its Rolls Royce Boeing 707s in 1962 but this label promoted its destination using the famous ‘mascot’ - the Maharajah greeting an English businessman. The design emphasised colonial ties and the importance of the London route. The airline started flying to London from India in 1948.
