CHILDREN can enjoy free summer holiday arts activities at the Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, and the Sandy Lane Centre in Skelmersdale.

Children aged between 8 and 11 will be working with professional artists Sarah Jane Richards and Gaenor Hall to investigate simple fun animation and illustration techniques.

Sessions are between 10.30am and 12.30pm at the Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk, on the following dates:

Tuesday, August 9 and Wednesday, August 10.

Tuesday, August 23 and Wednesday, August 24.

Unit 63 at the Sandy Lane Centre, Skelmersdale, hosts the same activities between 10.30am and 12.30pm on the following dates:

Tuesday, August 16 and Wednesday, August 17.

Tuesday, August 30, Wednesday, August 31

For children aged 11 to 16 the gallery is organising a four-day activity in which the children can develop animation ideas that will influence the artwork to be displayed in the animation exhibition at the Chapel Gallery in September.

Children will work with artist Sarah Jane Palmer and learn how to make 3D sculptures and inflatables, silhouette film animation, silhouette puppets and how to do storyboarding for animation and film. The sessions are from Tuesday, August 9 to Friday, August 12 and last from 10.30am-4pm.

Cllr Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for leisure, said: “The arts development service does some great activities for young people, so make sure you don’t miss out on these great sessions.”

All sessions are free but places are limited and must be booked in advance.
