Ormskirk through to last four of national club championsh­ip

AN excellent not out 85 by Josh Bohannon helped Ormskirk beat Bamford Fieldhouse by seven wickets in yesterday’s Royal London Club Championsh­ip quarter-final at Hollin Lane.

Chasing 173 for victory, the MI Dental Liverpool Competitio­n side reached their target with 23 balls to spare after Bohannon and Ormskirk skipper Matt Glayzer had put on an unbroken 87 runs for the fourth wicket.

Earlier, a splendidly discipline­d performanc­e by the Brook Lane team had restricted the Greater Manchester League side to 172-6 off their 45 overs with Ian Robinson taking 1-24 off his nine overs and Scott Lees, 2-28 off eight.

“We bowled and fielded excellentl­y,” said Glayzer. “We didn’t let them get away at any time and then Josh played a very controlled and well-paced innings. We executed all our plans really well.”

Ormskirk now visit Chester Boughton Hall or South Northumber­land in the semi-final, which is scheduled for August 28.

In the MI Dental Liverpool Competitio­n Premier Division, Ormskirk are are now just two points behind league leaders Northern after they demolished Lytham by eight wickets at Brook Lane.

Three wickets apiece for Simon Kerrigan and Josh Bohannon helped dismiss the Fylde side for 85 in 42.1 overs and Ormskirk knocked those runs off in 17.3 fussless overs.

However, on a less happy note for the Liverpool Competitio­n, the Echo understand­s that Lancashire have released both Ormskirk’s Gavin Griffiths and Leigh’s Luis Reece, along with seam bowler George Edwards.

In the quarter-finals of the Liverpool ECHO Knockout Cup, Ormskirk suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of title rivals Northern.

Matt Glayzer top scored with 42 as Ormskirk made 108-9 in their 20 overs, before Northern knocked off the target with four balls to spare - James Cole the catalyst with 40 runs. Josh Bohannon and Jamie Barnes picked up twowickets each.
