THE Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir are returning to West Lancs for a tour later this year.

They will be performing in venues in Ormskirk, Burscough and Aughton from Monday, November 7 to Saturday, November 12.

The choir is representing the Molly and Paul Childcare Foundation, which is based in and around Kampala, Uganda.

The charity was set up by Molly and Paul back in the 1970s to provide free education, homes and healthcare to poor, homeless and orphaned children.

Today, they have over 2,000 children in their care, and have built five schools, a health centre and a children’s village where the children without homes are cared for.

This is a non-government charity which relies completely on donations.

Event organiser Dave Tonge said: “Every year, the charity sends a children’s choir to the UK to raise money by giving local performances in schools, churches and other venues.

They are known as the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir.

“They are looked after by volunteer host families in the Ormskirk and Aughton area and I, together with a small team, are busy organising a full itinerary of concerts.” Events taking place are: Mon, Nov 7 – Evening Concert, The Civic, Ormskirk;

Tues, Nov 8 – Evening Concert at Burscough Priory High School;

Wed, Nov 9 – Evening Concert at St John the Baptist Church, Burscough;

Thurs, Nov 10 – Evening Concert at Christ Church Ministry Centre, Aughton;

Fri, Nov 11 – Evening Concert at Ormskirk School;

Sa, Nov 12 – Evening Concert at Rose Theatre, Edge Hill University, Ormskirk.
