All fired up for Leon ...

AN ORMSKIRK mum is planning to walk through fire to raise cash for the charity that helps her son.

Toni-Marie Walsh is due to walk on hot coals for Rainbow House, in Mawdesley, later this year, after they transformed the life of her son, Leon.

Leon’s underlying condition is still undiagnosed, but in October he was diagnosed with bowel dysmotility, which means his bowel can’t absorb the nutrients it needs.

Despite this leaving him in pain, Leon is still a happy and smiley little boy, who brings joy to his parents.

Through Rainbow House, Leon has now walked ten steps unaided, which is something his family could previously have only dreamed of.

Toni-Marie said: “Leon has come on leaps and bounds with Rainbow House and we owe them so much, which is why I decided to do the fire walk. I don’t think I could do a marathon or a fun run, but this seemed like something different and my family have been really supportive.”

The fire walk will take place at Rainbow House on Saturday, October 15, at 7pm, with bands due to play at the event and a hog roast also on offer.

Toni-Marie added: “Leon tries so hard and does so well in his everyday life and it’s only fair that I do the same.

“Friends keep sending me YouTube videos of hot coal challenges gone wrong, but I’m really looking forward to it. Leon is doing really well at the moment. He still has issues with his bowel, but on the whole he’s doing great and we’re having fun in the summer holidays.”
