A Divine way to have fun and stay positive
DIVINE Days Creative Arts recently hosted a taster day at the Greenhill Community Centre in Skelmersdale.
The aim of the day was to enable West Lancs residents to see for themselves the wide variety of arts, hobby crafts and dance activities that are enjoyed by men and women (irrespective of age, ability, or disability) and young adults with additional needs, every week at the centre.
The local police and county councillor Terry Aldridge were warmly welcomed and expressed their delight in meeting and supporting the work of the group. It’s a wonderful and effective way to remain active, to maintain social connections when retired, or to help keep positive and confident when managing a longterm health condition.
Divine Days Thursday activities are in two parts. Mornings sees the award winning Divine Dancers in action, learning and perfecting their routines and having fun!
Thursday afternoons means ‘Community Connections’. A time to share friendship, a cuppa, hobbies and interests and new ways to share, learn and enjoy arts and crafts with others.
A recent addition, the Divine Days Social Club for young adults with additional needs also meets on Thursday afternoons. New members can get in touch ready for September.
During the taster day, Divine Days dance troupe enjoyed showing visitors and newcomers the fun they have on a typical dance morning.
Divine Days dancers have additional needs and the group welcomes new members irrespective of ability or disability to enjoy friendships, exercise, free expression and creativity that makes the group so popular and well regarded, when they use beautiful music and the body to tell a story to audiences at events across the borough. Divine Dancers are proud to have been selected as both individual and group winners of the prestigious Nelson Dance Festival.
Community Connections members welcomed new visitors and encouraged them to come again to relax, revive abandoned hobbies and interests, and to sample new activities informally including painting, colouring books, model making, knitting, crochet, claywork, sewing, jigsaws, games, card making, and much more. While he was there, county councillor Aldridge, (Skelmersdale Central) Champion for Older People, presented a well-earned award and certificate to Christine, the newest RSPH (Royal Society for Public Health) Health Champion.
