Life-long partners celebrate
WELL-KNOWN local couple Joe and Jean Duffell have celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary in style.
The pair have spent an eventful 60 years together and commemorated their special day with dinner at an Italian restaurant with close friends and family.
Joe and Jean, former owners of the Westhead in Croston, married at New Longton Methodist Church in 1956 and later moved to Croston where they opened a chip shop, which attracted customers from all over the North West.
But it was their turn to be waited on at San Marco restaurant in Hoole, with daughter and her family.
Joe and Jean have one daughter, Angela, and two grandchildren, William, who is 16, and Sophia who is 13.
The close family were keen to celebrate the wonderful anniversary together.
Their daughter Angela is in awe of their relationship.
She said: ““I’m so thrilled that my parents have acheived 60 years of marriage when so many people don’t nowadays.
“They’ve worked so hard on their marriage and have been such great role models for any couple who live together and work together.
“It can’t have been easy to run a business with the person you are married to but they have been lifelong partners in everything they have done.”
Joe and Jean received many congratulatory cards and gifts from their friends and family, who are all ecstatic to see them reach this wonderful milestone, but one card in particular stood out from the rest.
Her Majesty The Queen sent the popular couple her congratulations in the form of a card and both Joe and Jean were over the moon to receive it.
Never ones for fuss, the Duffel’s celebrated quietly with their loved ones.
