Pubs take a softly, softly approach to road safety
ANUMBER of pubs across West Lancashire and Southport have been offering ‘buy one get one free’ on soft drinks in support of Coca-Cola’s safe driving campaign.
This is the ninth festive season in which Coca-Cola has run the Designated Driver scheme in support of the Department for Transport’s THINK! road safety campaign.
They’re encouraging local pubs to take a socially responsible approach to the holiday period by rewarding drivers not drinking alcohol with a ‘buy one get one free’ offer on soft drinks across the CocaCola range.
Pubs in Southport supporting this year’s festive campaign include the Dukes Folly Hotel, on Duke Street, The Wellington pub, on Eastbank Street, and the Imperial Hotel, on Albert Road.
Other pubs involved include the Hayfield, on County Road, Ormskirk, and the Richmond Hotel, on Scarisbrick New Road, Southport.
The scheme December 31.
Southport MP John Pugh, who is backing the campaign, said: “Personally, being a Pepsi Max drinker, I don’t touch Coca Cola, but I take my hat off to their Christmas and New runs until Year campaign, which I genuinely believe will save lives particularly of young drivers and their passengers.”
“The Designated Driver campaign is a fantastic initiative which rewards drivers for being responsible.
“The campaign makes it easier for people to do the right thing and helps us to bring people home safely this Christmas.”
The MP is also backing the FareShare ‘Snap to Donate’ campaign.
Consumers can donate a meal to someone in need by taking a photo of the FareShare logo on selected bottles of Coca-Cola, Cola Zero Sugar and Diet Coke and uploading it to cocacola.co.uk/donate.
Each uploaded photograph will trigger a donation from Coca-Cola, enabling FareShare to provide a frontline charity, such as a homeless shelter or older person’s lunch club, with enough food to serve one nutritious meal to someone in need.
