Bands tune up for an evening of indie cool
THE Arts Centre at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk will showcase some of the region’s most exciting new music this Saturday (March 4).
The four acts on the bill – Youth Hostel, Oranj Son, Ali Horn and Shrinking Minds – are all currently signed to The Label Recordings, Edge Hill’s record label which promotes existing and new music.
Free return bus travel to Ormskirk from Liverpool will be available for ticket holders travelling from the city (departs St Luke’s Church, Leece Street, Liverpool, at 7pm).
Carl Hunter, creative director of The Label said: “In the spirit of Stiff Records and Two Tone, The Label is hosting an evening with four of its bands at Edge Hill’s Arts Centre.
“It’s an evening of indie cool that features the dark, melodic grooves of Oranj Son, the punk shimmer of Shrinking Minds, the ethereal Ali Horn and the pop of Youth Hostel.
“Join us for an eclectic evening of new music and psychedelic projections.”
This Label Recordings has propelled Edge Hill from a relative unknown in the music industry to one of higher education’s most credible voices in popular music.
The record label has had nine signings so far: The Inkhearts, Hooton Tennis Club, The Little Secrets, SeaWitches and St Jude the Obscure in addition to those on the bill at the Band Night.
All artists have received international airplay including on BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.
Hooton Tennis Club have since signed a deal with Heavenly Recordings and have so far released two acclaimed albums, been named NME’s Band of the Week, received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and obtained coveted festival slots including Glastonbury 2015.
The Label Band Night kicks off a programme of events called Ten Sound City Saturdays, which celebrates Edge Hill University’s successful partnership with Liverpool Sound City festival.
The Label Band Night starts at 8pm, with tickets priced at £10/£8 concessions/£5 EHU students.
