MOOR Hall is now open and serving up contemporary cuisine cooked by double Michelin starred chef Mark Birchall.

The launch of the restaurant and accommodation in this Aughton manor attracted excitement from foodies keen to try the modern British menu.

Diners can choose between an eight-course meal (costing £95) and a five-course menu (£65).

Both are available at lunch and dinner, and there will also be a threecourse lunch menu (costing £30) available from mid-April.

Some of the delights on Moor Hall’s sample menu include oysters, black pudding, monkfish, crab and turnip broth, aged beef in charcoal, and Herdwick lamb loin and Jerusalem artichokes.

Speaking to the Advertiser, Mark Birchall said: “I’m feeling excited for people to be able to see the transformation of the building, and to doing what I’m good at, really!

“It’s nice to finally be able to get to a stage where I can start serving guests.”

Moor Hall on Prescot Road in Ormskirk is a secluded Grade II listed gentry house, believed to date from the 13th century.

Described as “one of the most important listed buildings in the UK”, the manor boasts a separate gatehouse, stables and a range of barns, all set within gardens with a lake and grounds of five acres.

The restaurant is more modern in design, with porcelain floors, and surrounding glass walls giving panoramic views of the property, with adjacent cheese and wine rooms.

A private dining room for a smaller number of diners is also available.

Mark’s menus will showcase his own style of modern British cuisine, wherever possible using produce grown on site or from local suppliers, and reflecting the culinary experience he has garnered over 15 years.

Moor Hall is currently taking bookings from March until May 31, 2016.

Reservations for June 2016 will open on April 1.

Rooms can now be booked until December.
