Grant boost for dementia support events

-

LANCASHIRE County Councillor Nikki Hennessy has delivered a cheque to the Age UK Lancashire Wellbeing Centre in Ormskirk to support some dementia-friendly activities and events taking place at the centre.

Caroline Thompson, from Age UK Lancashire, said: “We are delighted to receive this money as the events will provide the opportunity for local people, their carers, family members, friends and key partners to attend fun, informative and social events that will be themed around a traditional Lancashire day and bygone times.

“We are hoping to make each event slightly different and would encourage anyone living locally to come along and get involved”.

The grant of £1,000, from the Community Wellbeing Fund was made available to support people living with dementia or memory concerns, their carers and families who live in West Lancashire.

The number of people diagnosed with dementia is increasing every year and organisations such as Age UK Lancashire have services that provide vital support.

The dementia community links project run by the charity enables people diagnosed with dementia to continue doing activities they enjoy as well as staying involved in the community and also trying new hobbies.

Cllr Hennessy said: “Age UK Lancashire do a fantastic job in the area and provide lots of services that benefit our elderly population.

“The grant we have provided them will benefit many people who live with dementia or memory problems.

“It’s so important that we continue to support this charity and the projects they have as many people rely on their support”.

The first event is being planned for April so anyone interested in attending or people looking for information on local services should contact 0300 303 1234 for further details or visit the Wellbeing Centre in Moorgate in Ormskirk.

The date will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
