Town centre bar makes big plans
BOSSES are hoping to expand a popular student bar in Ormskirk, with changes aimed at reducing queues at the busy venue.
Alpine Club Lodge is predominantly a student bar that provides off-campus night life for students living in halls of residence, as well as in local student accommodation.
The bar, which currently occupies 17-21 Railway Road, is to be extended into the vacant unit of number 23.
In a statement accompanying their planning application, the owners said: “Due to the high demand for entry into the club we do, on occasions need to form an orderly, controlled queue outside of the premises.
“Additional space will inevitably reduce the need for patrons to queue outside.”
They also hope to extend the smoking area into the yard behind the beer garden.
The statement said: “Located to the rear of Alpine Club is an existing ‘beer garden’/external area, which proceeds into an existing rear yard which is used for the recycling.
‘‘During our hours of operation, the rear yard is redundant.”
It is also hoped that the extension will prevent vehicles from parking illegally behind the premises.
The application added: “Our proposals increase the internal footprint and enhance the external experience for our patrons whilst providing an addition to our smoking area, which will inevitably tidy up the entire rear yard, safeguard against people parking illegally and give added security to the rear of the premises.”
A final decision on the application will be made by West Lancashire Borough Council planning committee. storage of bins/
