Hundreds more in homes plan
A HOUSING company is planning to build three major devlopements in Skelmersdale, totaling 211 homes.
Gleeson Homes has submitted plans to West Lancashire Borough Council to build the developments in three areas of the town.
If the applications are approved, 35 homes will be built at Evenwood Court in Tanhouse, 104 off Birch Green Road, and 72 on the site of the former sports centre at Digmoor.
Separate plans for 94 family houses on land to the rear of Blaguegate Lane in Lathom were approved last month and it now looks as though more could be coming to the town.
The site of the former Digmoor sports centre has been earmarked for development since 2015 and could finally be put to use if the plans are approved. The plans are being submitted as separate applications, meaning they will each be assessed individually and will not necessarily receive the same decision.
According to Gleeson, the homes are being designed with security as one of the key principles of the development.
The firm says it has a history of creating “safe neighbourhoods” in deprived areas and would use these experiences in Skelmersdale.
Much of these plans involve ensuring the houses have good visiibility of the surroundings, ensuring homeowners have a good view of their cars, gardens and any public spaces.
The applications state: “Gleeson has a wealth of experience in creating safe neighbourhoods in areas of social and economic deprivation and know that achieving security through design is more than a series of standard details and security recommendations.
“It is also about creating an environment that promotes good social behaviour and encourages a sense of community, ownership and pride, which in turn encourages the self-policing of a neighbourhood.” THE family of an Up Holland toddler born with a rare life-limiting condition is seeking help.
Lily-Mae EsfandiaryBilvee has Cockayne syndrome, a genetic condition that only affects one in 500,000 children.
Medical professionals say that she will have a short life expectancy.
Her family has received support from Amy and Friends, a charity which provides Lily-Mae with anything she might need.
They are holding a family fun day fundraiser for the charity at Holland Hall on August 20, from noon to 6pm.
The free-entry event is for all ages with a wide variety of entertainment and activities, and the fire brigade set to attend.
Local singers and dance troupes will preform at the event, alongside a DJ.
There will also be stalls, bouncy castles, fun buses, a fairground and more.
Additionally, an auction will be conducted.
Lily-Mae’s grandmother Sue Hodson, who has been involved in organising the event, said: “It is set to be an amazing day, for a good cause, and we hope to raise approximately £1,000.”
