Red letter day for Formula 1 charity ball

-

AN ORMSKIRK business owner donated an 8ft elephant sculpture to the Grand Prix Ball for charity.

Ian Unsworth, owner of Pangea Sculptures, donated the elephant named Red to be auctioned at the charity ball.

Pangea Sculptures has a showroom in County Road in Ormskirk, which opened in July 2016.

The Grand Prix Ball was held at The Hurlingham Club in Chelsea before the Formula 1 British Grand Prix that was held at Silverstone last month.

While Red was travelling down to London, he caused quite a stir, capturing the attention of many drivers.

It is believed that Red sold for a significant amount at auction, although the exact figure cannot be disclosed.

Also on offer at the auction was a designer dress, a weekend in Dubai and a weekend on Eddie Jordan’s yacht.

All money raised from the auction was donated to Wings for Life , a spinal cord research charity.

Mr Unsworth, a Formula 1 aficionado, said: ”It was a fabulous evening and we were proud to attend and support The Grand Prix Ball and its chosen charity, Wings for Life, which has special and personal associations for the F1 pundits.”

The event was organised by Formula 1 experts David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan, Christian Horner and Tiff Needell. Entertainment consisted of live performances from The Gipsy Kings, DJ Seb Fontaine, Emily Haig, and F1 live car demonstrations in the grounds.

On the night, Red was given pride of place as the Formula 1 car demonstrations took place around him.
