FROM the Beeston Review, w/e August 4 CATTLE Trade very brisk once again, no real superstars on offer but prime quality cattle very dear. Top call for heifers of 228p/kg for Mr Booth, narrowly pipping John Gate at 225p/kg. Some great steers on offer just over the 200p mark, selling to 218p/kg for G & E Mitchell and Murray to gross the day’s top headage of £1360. Bulls in short supply once again, more needed, John Gate selling to 208p/kg, GM Booth to 194p/ kg, Friesians to 177p/kg for Carol Addison. POULTRY Plenty of poultry and a good variety, however less buyers which reflected on the prices achieved. Star of the show was a White/Blue Eyed Teddy Buck Rabbit which fetched £25, then two more White/Blue Teddy Buck at £20 (all prices per head). A Salmon Brahma sold for £17. A trio of Ayam Cemani sold at £15. A pair of Call Ducks fetched £15 as did another pair of Ayam Cemani. A broody hen and nine mixed Bantam chicks £14. Three Cream Legbar £11. Over 100 P.O.L. Hybrids selling up to £10. PIGS Good trade yet again, with excellent quality pigs in from all over the UK. A good demand, plenty of pigs and buyers. Sows selling to 72ppk, Butchers pigs selling to 167ppk, Stores £72. Top 5 prices: 167 ppk Caernarfonshire piggeries, 165 ppk Caernarfonshire piggeries, 162 ppk Caernarfonshire piggeries, 160ppk Caernarfonshire piggeries; 154 ppk Richard speed. SHEEP Ewes average £60.06; rams to £120. Top 5 prices: £120 R & S Morgan, £90. R & S Morgan, £90. J Worthington, £90 O Willams, £85 H Taylor. A good entry of ewes and rams this week. Topping the sale was a good Suffolk ram sold for £120. Less Texel types on offer this week. Top ewes was a pen of Suffolk’s ewes sold for £90. EGGS Free Range eggs to £1.40 per dozen POTATOES Potatoes saw Wilja to £4.50, Chippers to £5 and Cheshires to £4 per bag FRUIT & VEG Beetroot 50p/bunch, Golden Beetroot 80p/bunch, Spring Cabbage x8 £2, Primo Cabbage x8 £3, Savoy x6 £2.50, Swede £3, R Beans £4.50, Cherry Tomatoes £3, Rhubarb £4, Kale £2, Cauliflower x8 £5.80
