THE Maghull Wind Orchestra has raised over £1,000 for the struggling people of Dancu in Moldova.

The 80-strong band performed at Maghull Baptist Church on November 18 where admission was free but donations amounted to £1,215.

Brian Pile, executive director of the charity Breadline, said: “My heartfelt thanks go to the musical director Phil Shotton and all members of the Maghull Wind Orchestra for their wonderful performance on Saturday night which raised a magnificent amount towards our work with poor families in Dancu.

‘‘Words simply cannot describe just how encouraged and blessed we are through the kindness and sacrifice of all in the orchestra.’’

Mr Pile added: ‘‘As I said on the night the real celebrities are not those we see on the TV screens, but the people the world doesn’t see, working tirelessly behind the scenes to give others a purpose in their lives which does so much to enrich their communities.”
