Man ‘almost choked’ on plastic found in store pastry
A MAN “almost choked” when he swallowed a piece of plastic lodged in a supermarket pastry.
Alexander Oliver-Berry, 25, from Aughton, was eating a Cinnamon Swirl from Morrisons when the strip stuck in his throat.
Luckily, he managed to cough it up, but was shocked by the experience.
The drama and theatre studies graduate recalled: “I was eating a pastry and felt something strange in the back of my throat.”
Upon finding it was a piece of plastic, he reported the incident to Morrisons via Twitter.
Alexander said: “It was lucky it was me eating it, if it was a child it could have been worse.”
The pastry was purchased from the Ormskirk store on the day of the incident, January 2.
Alexander said: “I’ve been a customer of Morrisons for years, you hear of things like that happening to other people, but doubt it’ll ever happen to you.
“Having worked in a retail environment before though, I can understand that mistakes happen and I’m sure they’ll take measures to ensure stuff like this doesn’t happen again.
“I’m just happy it was plastic, I’ve read stories before of people shopping at supermarkets and finding things like insects in products.”
A spokesperson for Morrisons said: “We’ve apologised to Alexander and sent him a gesture of good will.
“We encourage him to bring the product back to the store so that we can investigate.”
Alexander confirmed that the supermarket had “added some vouchers” to his Morrisons More card.
