Have your say over solar farm plans
ASOLAR energy installation, strong enough to power 720 homes, could be built in West Lancashire.
Plans for the installation have been put forward by Lightsource BP, a leading solar energy generator, in hope of being able to supply electricity to NSG Group’s technical centre in Hall Lane, in Lathom.
The proposed solar installation would have a peak output power capacity of 2.5 megawatts of electricity – which is enough to power the equivalent of 720 homes.
If plans are approved, Lightsource BP says the installation will provide approximately 30% of the NSG centre’s annual demand.
The majority of the proposed solar installation would be erected on 10 acres of land just to the south of the centre, with a smaller installation within NSG Group’s grounds.
The installation would also help meet carbon reduction targets, saving an estimated 908 tonnes of carbon emissions each year – the equivalent of taking 193 family cars off the road.
Lightsource BP also said that the construction would be designed to incorporate “habitat enhancement measures”, which would include accommodating grazing sheep.
Local residents are encouraged to give their opinion on these proposals in a public community information evening where the initial plans will be on display.
The event will take place at NSG Group’s Technical Centre in Hall Lane in Lathom on Wednesday, January 17, between 5.30pm and 8.00pm.
Nick Boyle, CEO at Lightsource BP, said: “We’re excited to be working with NSG to develop a solar installation to generate safe, clean electricity for their European Technical Centre, in Lathom.
“We want these plans to be the best fit for the local community as well as the energy customer, which is why we are keen for local businesses and residents to come along to the information evening.
“In addition to gaining feedback, we also want to give residents an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the development or solar energy in general.”
