Keith takes the lead for gigs against cancer
ORMSKIRK musician Keith Hubbard has joined Cancer Research UK’s Steph Tickle to form The Merseyside “Gig 4 Life” Cancer Research UK fundraising committee.
Keith, who has twice battled cancer, is also celebrating 55 years in music.
His new role is aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of early diagnosis and the help that Cancer Research UK can give.
After the successful “Race 4 Life” Cancer Research UK’s Gig 4 Life committee is arranging a programme of live music fundraising events.
The first of the events to come to Ormskirk is a Rockin’ At The YPC special on Saturday, May 19, at 7.30pm, in The Civic Hall. Tickets are £10.
Featuring on the alllive bill will be Keith’s four-piece band, Beats Workin’, who, as well as performing their own set, will also provide the musical backing for Ormskirk’s Rock Choir, a 60-plus choir ensemble of local singers directed by Anthony Seaman.
Recently Rock Choir have performed at such venues as ACC Arena and The Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool and The Tower Ballroom Blackpool.
Completing the bill will be Burscough Arts Centre ukulele group’s 16-piece performing band, Ukes At The Wharf, Beats Workin’s special guest Ormskirk’s own Roy (Rebel) Smith who was a co-founder, with Keith, of mid ’60s Ormskirk band The Rebels. Compere for the show will be Mighty FM’s Russ Broadbent.
