Skem dominate in Doncaster

-

THE weather wasn’t great when the Skem Men-aces Disability Football team hit the road again.

This time the Men-aces headed to Doncaster playing in the shadows of Keepmoat Stadium, the tournament consisting of 56 teams battling it out for some silverware.

First up were the grading games, in which the two Men-aces teams kept the ball low and to feet and conserved their energy as the winds exhausted those around them.

This was certainly a test of their determination, with the Men-aces concentrating on ball control and the build-up of play within the games presented them with some well formed goals.

Both teams moved up a few levels and it was game on with the big boys – the categories were top notch, a true test for the Men-aces, but the standard of play was unbelievable and applauded by the shivering crowd that braved the elements.

Coach Mim Eaton said: “As the arctic blast cut through the field, it was the Men-aces that came out on top.

“Reaching out to the trophy definitely warmed the atmosphere, the hunger and passion both teams showed was a true testament to the club and all the hard work they have put in this season.

“The journey home was a chance to relive all the goals, tackles and have a good sing song before, one by one, drifting off to sleep.”

The Men-aces have done terrifically this season, and are dreaming that one day they will hold their own tournament.

Mim added: “We would love to showcase Skelmersdale, and give our visitors something to go back to all four corners of the UK, with something to tell.”
