Public meeting on Victoria Park housing development
BURSCOUGH Parish Council’s planning committee met in a public gathering on Wednesday evening with Burscough Football Club’s Victoria Park housing development plans on the agenda.
The HSL Premier Division outfit are planning for life away from their current Victoria Park home and are looking to secure part of the funding for the move by building houses on their traditional arena.
In an official statement released by the club last week, Burscough wrote: “West Lancashire Borough Council have recently received a detailed full planning application for a ‘shared ownership’ affordable housing development on Victoria Park.
“We’re pleased to have secured the significant interest of a wellrespected and local housing association to bring this application forward.
“The intended 52 homes, configured as affordable flats and houses for rent and shared ownership – bringing new residents into Burscough – compliments the desire for the village’s sustainable viability and vitality.
“The principle of the redevelopment for housing at Victoria Park has been established through the strategy adopted for new football ground. This application should therefore be viewed as part of a wider strategy to secure the long term future of Burscough FC.”
The meeting was a chance for the local public to air their views on the matter as well as overlook the plans themselves.
On the field, Dave Sutton’s men lost 2-1 to Irlam in midweek to continue their poor start to the season.
Burscough have now won one of their opening six Hallmark Security Premier Division fixtures – losing the other five – and have been defeated in three consecutive games.
