ASEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy was rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a scrambler bike in a hit and run.

Oliver Edwards-Kiernan was riding a push-along scooter with his dad when he was knocked over by a green scrambler bike.

The incident took place near Summer Street in Skelmersdale on Saturday at about 5.30pm.

The rider is believed to have been wearing a black hoody and had short, shaved hair.

The St Edmund’s primary school pupil got up after the incident but was later taken to A&E at Ormskirk Hospital where he was kept in overnight.

His mum, Elizabeth Kiernan, said: “He was riding on his scooter with his dad, who was slightly behind, when a bike came and hit him without checking if he was okay.

“Oliver got up, so we didn’t realise the extent of his injuries at first.

“He scraped all the left side of his face and the tyre hit his back and caused bruising.”

The mum-oftwo was very worried about Oliver but, fortunately, tests confirmed there was no internal injuries or spinal damage.

She added: “We’re really lucky really. He is very sore and very shaken and has been off school, but we’re hoping to send him back for the morning this week. “We want him to have normality and see his friends.” Since the incident, Oliver has been jumpy and nervous when leaving the house. Elizabeth said that scrambler bikes were becoming a real problem in Skelmersdale. The 26-year-old added: “We want to find the perpetrator. “I want to issue the appeal to make others aware and make the streets safer for everyone.”

Lancashire police have confirmed the incident was reported to them and an investigation is under way.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At approximately 5.25pm on Saturday, September 15, a young boy, whilst out with his father near Summer Street, was knocked from his push-along scooter by what is thought to be a green off-road bike, being ridden by a male in a black hoody, possibly accompanied by another bike.

“The rider did not stop and the child was taken to hospital with injuries due to the collision.”
