All lit up in aid of baby loss week
ORMSKIRK Clock Tower and the Lightcube in Skelmersdale will shine pink and blue in support of parents who suffer the devastating loss of a baby.
West Lancashire Borough Council is arranging for the structures to be lit between dusk and dawn during Baby Loss Awareness Week next week, October 9-15.
Baby loss occurs in many forms, including miscarriage, termination of pregnancy due to foetal abnormality, stillbirth, neonatal death and postnatal deaths including Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Sids) and sudden toddler death.
Working with major charities, health care providers and families the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Baby Loss focuses on prevention, clinical care and support for the bereaved parents.
For Baby Loss Awareness Week, the APPG has contacted organisations all over the country to ask them to light up their buildings to show that this is an issue that affects people everywhere in the UK.
Kim Webber, the council’s chief executive, said: “West Lancashire Borough Council is joining others around the country to take part in Baby Loss Awareness Week.
“Ormskirk Clock Tower and the Lightcube in Skelmersdale are two of our borough’s most distinctive landmarks and we hope lighting up these two structures will increase awareness of this issue and the support available to those it affects.”
