New move in bid to solve flood nightmare
THE county council has confirmed that funding has been secured and consultants appointed to tackle flood risks in Burscough.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper said that Lancashire County Council has appointed Jacobs, as the authority’s framework consultancy, to undertake the study, which will consider the catchment and surface water flood risk in Burscough.
They have taken the opportunity to co-ordinate the study with one being undertaken by United Utilities, allowing for consideration of the interaction of the various drainage systems in Burscough more accurately.
Ms Cooper welcomed this commitment and said that she looked forward to seeing the final report, recommendations and outcomes.
She said: “Burscough, as with other parts of West Lancashire, has been heavily affected by flooding and drainage issues in recent years which have at times flooded homes and businesses and caused great angst and anxiety to many residents.
“I am pleased that Lancashire County Council, along with United Utilities, have taken this initial step to recognise the issues and investigate the detail.
“Residents will not be assured all is OK until they see the findings of the reports and studies, and the recommended actions being carried out.
“I have written to both Lancashire County Council and United Utilities to ensure I am kept informed of developments and to get a clear timeline for the work.”
