GHOULS and giggles are heading your way this October to raise money for Community Link Foundation (CLF).

CLF is delighted to have been chosen as the preferred charity for Southport Comedy Festival’s Comedy Workshop Showcase for the fifth consecutive year.

This year, the event takes place at the Ramada Plaza on Sunday, October 21 and is set to be a cracker.

The comedy showcase brings together 10 people from around the town and they are trained for six weeks by professional comedian Bren Riley.

The material is all their own but Bren gives them pointers and hints of how to perform and essentially, how to make people laugh.

At the end of the six weeks they have to perform in front of 250 people!

This year’s contestants include Ashleigh Morris, Chris Johnston, David Ash, Dereck Littlejohn, Ian Cleverdon, Nigel Mawdsley, Marianne Hynes and Mark Cunningham.

The event will see them perform live comedy for the first time and they’d be really grateful of your support.

Money raised at the event will go to Community Link Foundation so it’s all for a good cause too.

Enda Rylands, chairman of Community Link Foundation said: “We are delighted to be the chosen char- ity for this event. It is always such a good night and what the people taking part do is really impressive!

“It takes some guts to get up there in front of so many people.

“Funds raised at events like this allow us to take our support for local people even further.

“We are very grateful to everyone at Southport Comedy Festival and to the brave people who are taking part.”

Bren Riley, director of Southport Comedy Festival, explained: “There is no better way to raise money than by raising a smile, and that is what we aim to do.

“We are delighted to be working with Community Link Foundation again as we have seen the excellent causes that they help in the local area.”

You can buy tickets for the event direct from the Ramada reception on the Promenade or go to www.southportcomedyfestival.com.

Mezzanine Bar on Lord Street, Southport, is holding a number of events around Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night and in the run up to these events they will be doing face painting for the children.

Between October 25 and 28 there will be face painting available in the bar and they are not taking payment but instead are asking people to make a donation to Community Link Foundation, so please show your support and pop in.

On Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night they will be serving chilli or soup and a roll for £4.95.
