BURSCOUGH are looking for a new first-team manager with Dave Sutton being earmarked to return to his director of football role at Victoria Park.

The club spent their first term in the HSL last year and narrowly avoided relegation under Sutton with a superb turn of form during the summer. They also reached the Macron Cup final but were ultimately beaten by Widnes.

Linnets, however, have started the new campaign with just three wins from their opening nine games and lost 3-2 at Victoria Park to Whitchurch Alport on Tuesday evening.

Sutton - who made over 200 appearances for Huddersfield during a playing career that spanned more than 15 years arrived at the club as a director of football in 2016 and will now revive that position if the club find a suitable new manager.

A statement on the club’s website invited applicants on Wednesday afternoon.

“Burscough Football Club are inviting applications from competitive, positivethinking, self-motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic candidates who aspire to be the very best and want to achieve progress through player development in the football pyramid.

“Applicants should have experience of non-league management at Step 5 level or above, possess appropriate coaching qualifications, an advantage [would be] good footballing contacts especially in the North West.”

Applicants are invited to apply by sending their CV - plus cover letter - to club secretary Steve Halliwell with details available on the official Burscough website.

Chairman Mike Swift was keen to stress that Dave Sutton had not left the club and was always intending to revert back to a director of football position as Linnets look to improve on their current 14th place standing.

Burscough take on 1874 Northwich this weekend with Sutton still assuming managerial responsibilities.
