It’s Artz for All as group takes over library
UP HOLLAND library will be transformed into an arts and community centre after being taken over by a non-profit group.
Artz for All, which runs the Artz Centre in Birch Green, has been given ownership of the library building by Lancashire County Council and plans to offer activities such as drama and music.
The library was one of several closed down in 2016 as the county council battled budget cuts.
The new centre will also provide opportunities for young people to take part in dance and photography as well as providing space for wider community activities.
Artz for All will also provide an independent community-run library service, which will be maintained for use by the community.
They will have access to help from the county council to establish the library, including £5,000 to provide public internet access and cover set-up costs, as well as shelving, an initial supply of books, and advice from a community library manager.
When the independent community library becomes operational, the council will also continue to provide support through an annual grant of £1,000 for internet access.
County Councillor Peter Buckley, cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “We have agreed to transfer ownership of Up Holland Library to Artz for All as quickly as possible. We’ll work closely with them to complete the process, so that local people have access to another library service to complement the library services operated by the council.”
