Cig butt driver to pay £440

A DRIVER has been or­dered to pay £440 af­ter drop­ping a cig­a­rette butt out of his ve­hi­cle win­dow.

Drop­ping a cig­a­rette butt is a lit­ter­ing of­fence and any­one caught will be is­sued with a £75 fixed penalty no­tice.

Wi­gan Mag­is­trates Court heard that a coun­cil of­fi­cer saw a driver drop­ping a cig­a­rette end out of this ve­hi­cle in Mill Lane, Skelmersdale.

The ve­hi­cle was traced back to Nor­man Bray of He­skin Close, Kirkby.

Bray was is­sued with a fixed penalty no­tice of £75 but this was not paid. The coun­cil then took the mat­ter to the mag­is­trates court.

Bray did not at­tend court and was found guilty in his ab­sence.

As well as his fine he was also or­dered to pay costs of £397.14 and a vic­tim sur­charge of £44, a to­tal of £881.14.
