Cig butt driver to pay £440
A DRIVER has been ordered to pay £440 after dropping a cigarette butt out of his vehicle window.
Dropping a cigarette butt is a littering offence and anyone caught will be issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice.
Wigan Magistrates Court heard that a council officer saw a driver dropping a cigarette end out of this vehicle in Mill Lane, Skelmersdale.
The vehicle was traced back to Norman Bray of Heskin Close, Kirkby.
Bray was issued with a fixed penalty notice of £75 but this was not paid. The council then took the matter to the magistrates court.
Bray did not attend court and was found guilty in his absence.
As well as his fine he was also ordered to pay costs of £397.14 and a victim surcharge of £44, a total of £881.14.
