Martin Mere
VOLUNTEERS are at the heart of the WWT charity – without our volunteers we couldn’t do what we do.
Across the charity at nine different centres, we have around 1,000 volunteers in a wide range of roles.
From helping to keep our grounds and reserves in tip-top condition, to welcoming visitors as they come to our centres, there’s a volunteer role for everyone.
Here at Martin Mere Wetland Centre, we’re looking for volunteers to join our family so we’re holding a Volunteering Week from March 18-24 for you to come and chat to us to find out more about the variety of roles available here.
We’ve got lots of opportunities for our Visitor Services Team, Grounds Team and Education Team and days and times are very flexible.
To volunteer with us, you don’t need any expert knowledge, just a keen interest in people and wildlife, a flexible approach and a ‘can-do’ attitude.
In return for donating your time to us, you get free entry to all nine WWT Wetland Centres, 25% discount in our café and shop, free social events throughout the year and free training.
Volunteering is also a brilliant opportunity to meet new people, share your skills with others and develop new skills – all whilst working in our beautiful wetlands.
Di, one of our visitor services volunteers, has been volunteering with Martin Mere for over three years.
She said: “It all started over lunch for me.
“I’ve been a member for a long time and one day I brought my friend for lunch.
“We spotted a sign for volunteering and three days later we were having our induction! It’s a happy place to be a volunteer.
“I really enjoy meeting the public, talking to them and hearing their stories.
“It’s also been great to learn about the different species at the centre, and the social side of volunteering has also been brilliant.
“It’s a super place and I’d shout it from the rooftops - volunteering at Martin Mere is amazing!”
Our staff will be available 2-4pm every day from March 18-24. ● If you’d like to book a specific time to talk to one of us, please email info.martinmere@wwt.org.uk. For more information about volunteering, please visit our website: wwt.org.uk/martin-mere
