Hesketh Bank on shortlist for centre
HESKETH Bank has been shortlisted by West Lancs Borough Council for funding to build a new community centre.
Since 2010 the council has collected Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) monies from new developments, which must be used to support infrastructure schemes in the borough, and this year it has earmarked £100,000 of that money for smaller, strategic infrastructure projects.
Steve Kirby, chair of Hesketh Bank Community Centre, said: “We are excited to be shortlisted from many worthy projects across the borough for this funding.
“We have worked very hard to get to this point, having submitted our initial bid over a year ago, and we continue to gather considerable support not only from people who currently use the facility but also prospective users if we are successful.”
He added: “If we do secure this funding it will move us much closer to our target of having a new community centre by June 2020.”
The shortlist of three projects across West Lancashire is now available to view online and the borough council is seeking comments from residents as part of a consultation process which will run until Friday, November 8.
“We really need everyone’s support to help us with this so that we can deliver on our promise.”
