No running around at rugby clubs – for dogs
NEW restrictions have been placed on dog owners after West Lancashire Borough Council updated its Public Space Protection Order.
After a public consultation, dogs are now banned from entering the children’s play area at Station Road, Hesketh Bank and the enclosed sports area at Evermoor Hub, Skelmersdale.
Dogs must also now be kept on a lead at Ormskirk
Rugby Club, Tarleton Rugby Club and Tarleton Cricket Club.
Councillor Gareth Dowling, portfolio holder for communities and community safety, said: “We are really pleased to receive and act on all the comments and feedback residents took the time to tell us about.
“We know dog owners want to exercise their pets in a responsible manner and will support the decisions made to keep these sports grounds and play areas safe for their local communities.’’
Cllr Dowling added: “Residents concerned about any other areas can still submit reports to the council which will be taken on board in any future reviews.”

LANCASHIRE County Council has introduced its latest temporary road changes as a stretch of Yew Tree Road was closed to cars.
The road has been partially blocked with large planters to divert traffic away and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
The change is the latest in a series across Ormskirk, and also being implemented across the country, which are designed to encourage people to walk or cycle as lockdown restrictions are eased.
The county council says it has worked with local councils in making its plans as it aims to increase footfall in town centres and reduce the dependency on public transport while restrictions are still in place.
Current government advice recommends that everybody should continue to avoid public transport wherever possible, while the two-metre social distancing rule has reduced capacity on some services to around 10% capacity.
The latest change has seen Yew Tree Road closed between Hill Crest Road and Croftson Avenue.
County Councillor Keith Iddon, Lancashire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Our focus is to prevent the spread of the virus, and make it easier to walk and cycle due to the continuing restrictions on public transport.
“We’ve already introduced some temporary measures to create more space for people to keep apart in the busiest areas of Ormskirk town centre, and this point closure on Yew Tree Road will help to make it easier for people to cycle as an alternative to using public transport or driving.
“These measures are part of our emergency response to help Lancashire control and recover from the coronavirus, and we will keep them under review.”
