Fire engine hits van on way to emergency call-out
A MERSEYSIDE fire and rescue engine was involved in a crash on its way to an emergency.
The engine from Kirkby Community Fire Station was called to an incident in Maghull, caused by Storm Franklin.
However the engine crashed with a Ford van on County Road, at the junction with Hall Drive, in the direction of North Wood, at 8.20am, on Monday, February 21. Firefighters reported no injuries involving the crew travelling in the engine.
The driver of the van was taken to hospital, though his injuries are not believed to be serious.
A Merseyside Fire a Rescue Spokesperson said: “This morning at around 8.20am a fire engine from Kirkby Community Fire station responding to an emergency call in Maghull caused by current weather conditions was involved in a road traffic collision with another vehicle.
“The occupant of the other vehicle, a van which remained on all four wheels, went to hospital but not thought to be seriously injured.
“There were no injuries reported involving the fire crew travelling in the fire engine.
“Merseyside Police assisted with traffic management at the scene. An investigation is taking place into the cause of the collision.”
Roads were temporarily closed by police while the van was recovered.
A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: “At around 8.30am today (Monday 21 February) officers were called to a report of a collision involving a fire engine and a van on County road in Kirkby. A man who was driving the van was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
“Hall Lane and County Road in the direction of Northwood was closed during the incident whilst the van was removed.”
Any witnesses to the crash that may have information are asked to get in touch with Merseyside police quoting log number 223 and fate February 21.
