Woman and child terrified as robbers break in

A WOMAN and her young child have been left shaken after three people smashed their way into a house in Skelmersda­le.

Police were called to a report of an incident in Carfield at around 8.15pm on March 9. It had been reported that three people wearing balaclavas and carrying a baseball bat had smashed through the glass doors of a property before vandalisin­g a television in front of a woman in her 20s and her child.

Officers attended the scene and neither the woman nor child was injured during the incident.

However, they then received a further report that a 15-year-old boy had been stabbed and suffered an injury to his lower back before being taken to hospital for treatment.

Two men in their 20s and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and assault and bailed.

In a statement shared by Skelmersda­le Police, they said: “Detectives are appealing for informatio­n after an aggravated burglary and stabbing in Skelmersda­le.

“We were called around 8.15pm on Wednesday (March 9) to a report of an incident in Carfield. It was reported three people wearing balaclavas and carrying a baseball bat had smashed through glass doors of a property.

“The group vandalised a television before making off.

“A woman in her 20s, who was inside the property with her child, was not injured during the incident.

“Officers attended the scene and received a further report a 15-yearold boy had been stabbed.

“The boy had suffered an injury to his lower back and was taken to hospital for treatment. Three men were later arrested in connection with the investigat­ion.”

Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersda­le CID, said: “This was a shocking incident where the offenders smashed their way into a property, causing havoc, all in front of a woman and her young child.

“This crime has left the victim very shaken and we are urging people in the community to come forward with informatio­n to help our enquiries.

“While officers were at the scene, a further report was received of a boy being stabbed in the Carfield area. Thankfully his wounds are not life-threatenin­g. We are investigat­ing both offences and cannot rule out at this stage if they are linked. Anyone with informatio­n can contact police on 101 quoting log 1207 of March 9.”
