Air show set to take to the skies once again

SOUTHPORT Air Show will return this year after a two year hiatus. The event, which is a mainstay in the summer calendar, will see the Red Arrows and a host of other aircraft take to the skies over Southport and will run from July 9 to 10.

Sefton Council has implemente­d a number of road closures to help ease congestion and these will be in place before and after the event.

Marine Drive will be closed to through traffic between Fairway roundabout and the Marine Way roundabout and between Weld

Road and Pleasurela­nd roundabout from 7am to 7pm on across both days.

To enable a free flow of traffic after the air show from all event car parks, a number of routes will be closed to prevent unnecessar­y congestion.

These will be in place from about 3pm on Saturday and Sunday the routes are as follows:

Exit from Pleasurela­nd car park – No right turns will be permitted

Exit from Princes Park car park – No right turns will be permitted

Coastal Road northbound at its junction with Shore Road, Ainsdale

Marine Way bridge – no right turns will be permitted from the bridge

Fairway, northbound, at junction with Promenade

Exit from Splashworl­d car park – no right turns onto Esplanade

Exit from Dunes Leisure Centre car park – no right turns onto Victoria Way

Some roads will be subject to no waiting and no loading restrictio­ns from 7am to 7pm on both Saturday and Sunday they are:

Promenade – Fairway to Seabank – Both Sides

Promenade – Victoria Street to Nevill Street – Landward side only

The Esplanade – Kingsway to Victoria Way – Both sides

Victoria Way – Full length – its

Both sides

Westcliffe Road – Lulworth Road to Weld Road – Landward side only

Weld Road – Lulworth Road to the beach – Both sides

Rotten Row – Full Length – Both sides

Fairway – Full Length – Both sides

Princess Park access road – Full Length – Both sides

Esplanade – Victoria Way to Weld Road – Both sides

Palace Road – Weld Road to Oxford Road – Both sides

Ascot Close – Full Length – Both sides

Camberley Close – Full Length – Both sides.
