Mixed feelings to new train station proposals
What seemed like good news was met with disbelief and some scorn. Flora Pettyy, in the Echo’s comments section, said: “We are still waiting for Vauxhall, St James and Anfield to open!
“And what about Sefton Park and then there’s Childwall, then West Derby. I could go on.”
However Mr Rotheram had a defender in HonestJohnny, who replied: “Outdated? You’ve hundreds of million pounds worth of new trains coming on stream, and a day ticket to travel anywhere on Merseryrail for under £6.” Job123 said: “By the end of the decade. “Hang on I have just seen a flocks of pigs flying over the house.”
10bobnote added: “No more, Headbolt is waste of money and caused a worse service.”
Our sister paper The ECHO noted last year how patience was fraying over teething troubles at Merseyside’s newest train station after chaotic scenes, cancellations and “horrendous service”.
Teri69 expressed a desire echoed by others: “Need one for Anfield as a must.”
Alive to the desire for Liverpool FC’s stadium to get a new transport solution Mr Rotheram tweeted that there was an iron in the fire for that, and for connecting services to John Lennon Airport.”
On Facebook people pointed out places that have needed their own station for a long time.
Mike Bonner said: “Need one between Morton and Meols, been needing one for years since the estate got built.” Geraldine Callister said: “Need one in-between Fazakerley and Kirkby and an electric line to Preston.
“Think Skem would like one as well.” Matt link suggested: “Need new lines, not stations. A loop from Bootle round through Anfield and using the existing line would be more beneficial - back onto the network through one of the tunnels which is currently unused but structurally sound.”
Paul Gorton said: “Anfield, Walton, Tuebrook, Smithdown Road.
“All these places still have active lines and once had stations.”
