Linnets and Skem in duel challenge from East Lancs
BOTH our local teams face opposition from East Lancashire on Saturday with Burscough at home against Ramsbottom United while Skelmersdale are on the road to Padiham. Both games kick off at 3pm.
It will be important for both teams that they win.
Skelmersdale in particular are in desperate need of a three-point return.
Meanwhile, a success for the Linnets would probably rid them of any lingering relegation worries, it isn’t out of the question that both teams could win too.
Skem put a good show up against West Didsbury last Saturday and arguably were unlucky not to gather three points on that occasion. Burscough have made steady improvement over the last few months under the management of Dave Dempsey, a run that has seen them move away from the relegation zone.
It was back on the opening day of the season when Skelmersdale entertained Padiham, losing 3-1.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then and arguably there are no comparisons that can be drawn.
Burscough went to Ramsbottom back in November and lost 3-0 in what was Conrad Prendergast’s last game of his brief and very ill-fated time as Linnets manager. So much has changed with the Linnets too.
Burscough have a midweek game scheduled next week when they go to
Barnoldswick Town on Tuesday night (19th March), a rearrangement of a game that was postponed back in January.
Barnoldswick is the first of four consecutive away games for the Linnets as they are away to Pilkington on Saturday 23rd March.
On the same day Skelmersdale United will be at home to Prestwich Heys.
There was some positive news announced on X formally Twitter, when they secured youngster Tommy Smith on a contract so is the impression that the local lad has made in his time associated with the first team, Tommy scored the Skelmersdale goal on Saturday and is very popular with the Skelmersdale support as is clear in the photograph.
